I saw this image today and immediately thought of mail.......not e-mail, no......a mail that come by post...written in ink......a letter that someone actually took time to write by hand........when last did you receive a handwritten letter, or better yet......when last did you write a letter on paper to someone........
We buy all these lovely handwritten letters on e- bay and at flea markets to use in our art, but what do you think.....years and years from now.....will there still be some to buy as ephemera, or will all they have be printed e-mails.........

I am ashamed to say I can't remember the last time I put pen to paper to write a letter. Maybe we should have a letter day.
I used to write many letters, until I had children and time is now spent doing mommy-things. I find myself now using Victorian postcards and adding my own little messages to the back ("something old and something new" I guess you could say)!
Oh my goodness! You are right! What will we do in 20 years???
It goes in spurts for me. Yesterday I mailed off 5 handwritten note cards and one postcard. I put "real" stamps on them too. Those franked things the post office supplies don't thrill me.
Real letters are getting scarce but I always delight in receiving one.

I love handwritten letters and yes, I still write them, and regularly :-) Email is convenient, but not as special and timeless as receiving words written by the hand of a friend. Great post!
Usually I do send thank you notes and sometimes they are hand made ones because I'm too cheap to buy them at $3.50 each!
I love to send by post - last summer I found a DARLING desk at an outdoor market so now I write more than ever.
I save my letters from people that are special to me - I'd like to think they would do the same.
Often I like the posted envelope as much as it's content. There is something about handwriting.
I started printing special emails but its just not the same.
To this day I prefer the familiar handwriting of a friend...my children would notice the mail I received and would say " Mommy, you get so much mail"..to which I would answer"to get a letter you have to write a letter..."

I remember buying truly lovely stationary,all fragrant with flowers along the side, and note cards. We won't have letter left to read of the famous unless they publish a book. Everything will be in internet heaven. Maybe just vacation postcards.
Terrible thought - only emails to use as epherma!!! I am going to write one letter this week for sure.
And what a treat it is to receive something in the mailbox! I remember my grandma used to send me and my brother lovely letters and homemade cookies when I was small.
I am going to start writing letters on beautiful paper and sent it with perfume. I might even let it become a trademark :-)

Hi Chamara, me again :-) Yes, that photo you asked about is of me. It was taken 2 years ago but I love it... it was a playful moment.
I write a letter to my bf every night before I go to sleep so he will have it to read in the morning, and he writes me a letter before he leaves in the morning...
we are old fashioned like that, I LOVE letters, and actually collect them.
I still send and recieve hand written letters. There is something special about them I must agree. Choosing good writing paper and envelopes, and pretty special edition stamps adds to the experience as well.
I think there will. I hope so, anyway. There's something intimate about ink on paper.
BTW, I thought of you when I posted the "Maru" vintage ad from Dover by my profile. It just looked like something you might get a charge out of.
It's a lovely feeling to receive a handwritten letter. Just knowing that a friend or loved one has taken the time to choose the paper or card. That they have then stood in line at the post office to mail it to you.
The feeling of anticipation of what you are about to read builds as you wait for the kettle to boil before you "sit down" with your friend.
Then the best bit ..........in a day or so you get to return the feeling of happiness and expectation to your friend ........... anyone want to join me
I write letters all the time...and also get letters back! I love writing letters...always have...it's becoming a lost art....
Oh my goodness, great point, I never thought of that. Maybe we should all write some letters now and then.
