Ala Gypsy: The woman in the glass......

The Woman in the Glass

When you get what you want as your struggle for self

And the world makes you queen for a day,

Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,

And see what that woman has to say.

For it isn't your father or mother or husband

Who's judgement upon you must pass;

The person whose verdict counts most in your life

Is the one staring back from the glass.

She's the person to please,

never mind all the rest,

For she's with you clear up to the end.

you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test

If the woman in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of life,

And get pats on your back as you pass.

But your final reward will be heartache and tears

If you've cheated the woman in the glass.

The woman in the glass... very nice to remember!

I saw an antique glass looking mirror today similar to the one in the picture. I should have snatched it up eh?

Wonderful poem. As is often said, you have to love yourself before you can really love others.

Oh, Chamara this is perfect timing! I have really struggled with my self image lately, and yesterday I decided it's time to get to know the face in the mirror, which I so often evade.

And so my new promise to myself is to spend a few minutes every day really looking at this face of mine, and hopefully I will learn to love it more, and stop focusing on the flaws.

Have a lovely Friday :)

I adore Camilla's work....

Also, from as farback as I can rememeber my parents have been saying this: You must be your own best friend. It has been engrained in my head....And, I am so glad, because as I got older it became very important to always love that girl in the mirror. No matter what.

And isn't it there, in the looking glass, that we learn the first steps of unconditional love, of forgiving, of accepting? And we see our souls in the very eyes that look back at us....
Just beautiful..........

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I love this poem, it is so true, we are our toughest critics. I stopped off to buy a beer for myself last night and this guy at the bar sitting by himself struck up a conversation with me about how his wife doesn't want to sleep in the same room as him anymore because she doesn't want him to see how ugly and fat she has become. This guy was so sad, he said that he still thought she looked the same, was the same sexy fun girl he married 12 years ago, but she freaked because she doesn't like how she looked. It's is true, we look in the mirror and are immediately tough on ourselves.

And so often we get so sweeped up in life and what other people expect and want... that we loose ourselves!
Thank you for reminding me, that I matter first!
