Decorating Find: The Cat`s Meow

Featured in the Victoria Magazine this month.....The Cat`s Meow, a Cottage Style Boutique, specializing in  Shabby Chic home decor......

Purveyors of the whitewashed and slipcovered aesthetic known as “shabby chic,” entrepreneurs Susie and Mark Holt fill nearly every nook of their boutique with repurposed and recycled treasures, including antique furniture, vintage decorative accessories, and timeworn linens and lace. Constantly on the hunt at flea markets around the country to bring an array of one-of-a-kind furnishings to their customers, this dynamic husband-and-wife team truly carries out their mission “to provide people a means to create comfortable places they call home.” Situated on Sarasota, Florida’s elegant Palm Avenue, Posh on Palm is a reflection of the Holts’ passionate pursuit of authentic craftsmanship and timeless style.

Wonderful, this is in Florida, where we are. My daughter is absolutely in love with this look, & she hasn't been to Sarasota...so maybe a mom/daughter drive over there would be quite worthwhile. Thank you for ferreting this out for us. xx's Marsha

This post has made me vow to FINALLY drive down to Sarasota and visit this shop! :)
I live only an hour away and for years have said I wanted to go see it -- well, I simply must! Thank you for these beautiful pictures!

The Holts also rent a little beach cottage decorated just like their shop, and wouldn't it be dreamy to stay in the cottage for a weekend while shopping on Palm Ave?? Sounds perfect to me!

Thanks for the nudge I needed to finally plan a getaway! :)

Thanks for sharing!

I've been there about 1 1/2 years ago. It was before they relocated! Such eyecandy!

Hello Gypsy...I LOVE Victoria Magazine. It's one of my absolute FAVORITES. And OMG. That last photo? Of the porch? That's exactly the layout of our porch. I WISH i could put screens all around it so the bugs wouldn't buzz buzz all around you out there. But that was a lovely post. Thanks. Sincerely, Susan

"French furniture" manufactured in China is like a wild south african lion in a french zoo !
There is a lack of authenticity.
For me it looks like Beaujolais wine in Texas and I call that ... coca cola !
Nothing replaces the craftmanship of the nineteenth century artisans.

HI, I just saw this post and had to comment, I have been to Susie and Marks beautiful store a few times. Yes, it is everything the pictures show and more. BUT what will truly make you fall in love is Susie and Mark themselves. My husband and I walked in on a quiet Sat last summer, there sat Susie and Mark at the counter. I never thought they would simple just be there since they were the owners. We chatted, as if we had known each other for a long time, my lobe of shabby chic look etc etc and then they came around and hugged us. Real geniune hugs. For all their fame and inspirational talent, they are two of most natural, friendly people I have met in a long, long time. To those of you who want to visit, you will fall in love with the shop and Susie and Mark, if you are lucky to meet them as we were.
